Tips
- Use styled text for a word or a short line, not a whole post. Screen readers often read these characters one by one, or skip them.
- Keep hashtags and keywords in plain text. Search on most apps won't match styled letters.
- On X, each styled letter counts as 2 characters.
FAQ
Common questions
How does this work without fonts?
These are special Unicode letters, made for math, that look bold or italic. Because they're characters and not formatting, they paste anywhere.
Will it show up for everyone?
On almost every phone and computer. Some very old devices show empty boxes instead.
Is styled text accessible?
Not very. Screen readers may read it letter by letter or skip it, so use it for a word or two, never for important information.
Why didn't some characters change?
Unicode only has styled versions of plain letters and numbers. Punctuation, accented letters and emoji stay the same.
Does styled text count against character limits?
Yes, often as more than one. X and TikTok count each styled letter as 2, and YouTube descriptions count it as 4. Paste it into the caption length checker to see.
